Land Ethic excerpt.

The land is constantly being abused by humans who contribute extensively to water and air pollution, deforestation, decrease in biodiversity, and global warming. There is a need for understanding and appreciating the Earth and all it offers humans, as well as, what it does not. Knowledge and awareness of the planet, the ways in which it works alone and with people, can help one understand the earth as a whole and how people contribute to and destroy it. One should try separating themselves from nature in order to have an outside view, which paradoxically shows humans inside of the environment. If humans can make this distinction, perhaps one might not feel so entitled to destroy the earth after realizing it is not theirs for the taking. However, one must also see from the outside perspective that humans are connected to the environment and with the destruction of the Earth the destruction of humanity's existence, as well. Humans must acknowledge they are the only species with the means to consciously destroy the planet. With this realization, hopefully responsibility will make humans prevent this from happening. The Earth gives relentlessly and the least one can do is give back to Earth. With knowledge, awareness, the right perspective, and understanding, humans will be able to appreciate Earth. A scared bond will be formed that brings forth respect and in return creates harmony among nature.

  1. I like your pro environmental stance because I too, care about the environment. You make solid arguments in terms of informing the reader as to why one should conserve the earth and you do a wonderful job at explaining the ways to protect such a marvelous creation.

  2. This read very much like a paragraph from an environmental studies textbook to me. I think you should add more of yourself to this piece. What happened that made you think all these things or feel an appreciation for the planet? There's too much telling here and not enough showing.
